CSRD reporting

SERVICE

Materiality analysis, identification of disclosure requirements, data collection, report preparation

01 INITIAL SITUATION

  • A real assets manager was preparing its first report in accordance with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).

  • As a result of the EU’s Omnibus Package, the company was no longer subject to the reporting requirements, as the thresholds had been raised significantly.

  • However, its investors and clients continue to expect robust sustainability disclosures.

  • The asset manager has therefore decided to report voluntarily in accordance with the ESRS.

  • The challenge here was the perspective: the material impacts, opportunities and risks arise predominantly within the funds’ assets.

02 APPROACH

STEP 01

Double materiality analysis

We have assessed both aspects: the company’s impact on the environment and society, and the financial opportunities and risks for the company.

STEP 03

Data collection

Working with the business units and three asset classes, we collected the data required for the ESRS disclosures and designed new data processes.

STEP 02

Disclosure requirements

From the topics identified as material to the company, we identified the relevant ESRS disclosure requirements. For each disclosure, we also defined the data needed.

STEP 04

Report preparation

Together with the client, we combined qualitative and quantitative ESRS data points under the new ESRS into a final CSRD report covering the three asset classes and the group level.

03 RESULTS

Double materiality analysis with rationale

Using assessment criteria, thresholds and a rationale for excluding certain topics, we worked together to determine what should be reported on and what data should be collected.

Sustainability report under ESRS

Each issue identified as significant was supported by concepts, measures and key performance indicators, supplemented by existing guidelines, and summarised in a report.

Foundations for subsequent reporting cycles

The two building blocks and the new data collection processes made it possible to update the report in future reporting years, so it does not need to be completely rebuilt.
